The Dallas Cowboys are known as America’s Team. That moniker emerged following the team’s massive success in the 1970s having played in five Super Bowls within the decade, winning two.

The name was further cemented to the franchise in the early 1990s after the Triplets of quarterback Troy Aikman, running back Emmitt Smith, and wide receiver Michael Irvin led the Cowboys to three Super Bowl wins in four years. All three players now reside in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

And despite not appearing in the big game since 1996, the Cowboys’ popularity remains very high. In fact, their games were among the most-watched through the first five weeks of the regular season in 2020, always ranking in the top three or higher. Starting quarterback Dak Prescott suffered a season-ending ankle injury in Week Five, essentially dooming the season in the eyes of many.

Despite the key injury to Prescott, the Cowboys’ telecasts would rank in the top-five of watched NFL broadcasts five more times throughout the rest of the regular season. In fact, their Thanksgiving matchup against the Washington Football Team reportedly brought in 30.3 million viewers, making it the most-watched telecast of the year at the time outside of the Super Bowl.

This brings us to a recent ranking of football fans in general by WalletHub. In an article titled 2021’s Best & Worst Cities for Football Fans by Financial Writer Adam McCann, Dallas was deemed to be the second-best city for football fans.

In order to determine that ranking, WalletHub apparently used 21 key metrics including a city’s size, fan engagement, the number of football teams in the area, plus the capacity of those stadiums and attendance numbers to compare 245 cities across the United States.

As for Dallas, the rankings had the Texas city ranked third-best overall for fans of professional football. But the ranking for the city’s fans of college football dropped all the way down to 237th. The overall best city for fans of football was deemed to be Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, topping out as No. 1 in professional football and 13th in college football. You can view the full rankings here.
